The Formula
Panels Needed = Roof Area ÷ (Panel Width × Panel Length) × (1 + Waste%)
Screws = Roof Area ÷ 100 × 80 (for exposed fastener)
Clips = Panels × (Panel Length ÷ Clip Spacing)
Ridge Cap = Ridge Length ÷ 10 ft per piece
Example Calculation
For a 1,700 sq ft roof with standing seam panels (16" wide, 16 ft long):
• Panel coverage: 16/12 × 16 = 21.3 sq ft per panel
• Panels needed: 1,700 ÷ 21.3 × 1.10 = 88 panels
• Clips: 88 × (16 ÷ 2) = 704 clips
• Ridge cap: 50 ft → 5 pieces
• Material cost: 1,700 × $12 = $20,400
